Taiwan’s pride parade is generally known as one of the earliest and largest pride parades in Asia, attracting numbers of marchers from Japan, Malaysia and the United States who fight together towards LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality. In May 2017, Taiwan’s top court ruled that same-sex marriages were constitutional, which makes Taiwan the first place in Asia legalize same-sex marriage. Although legislation is a milestone in LGBTQ+ movement history, many issues remains for members of the LGBTQ community. Gay couples are still not allowed to jointly adopt unless the child is the biological child of one of the members of the couple. Couples are also not allowed to marry unless both are from areas that have legalized gay marriage. Likewise, inclusive of inadequate resources and social education also called our attention to broader issues of diversity in sexual orientation and gender identities.
