Urban animals are all around us. City's hundreds acres of streets, backyards, parklands are prime real estate for urban animals in search of food, shelter, and places to raise their families. Don't be surprised if you see a sparrow sitting at a bus stop, a cat crawling against a wall, a mouse quickly hiding in a drain, or a dog wagging its tail in front of a convenience store — after all, they are citizens, too. Urban design is based on human-centered spatial configuration and functionality, and the structural patterns, human expectations and perceptions of open spaces affect the habits of urban animals in city landscapes, while animals are also appropriate public facilities for their living. During interactions, urban animals generate empathy and compassion towards city life, experiencing urban apathy and metropolitan melancholy like us. City, a place born for human civilization, has also become a natural scene.
